Which "combined" tree are you using? The documented one probably works.
The uberbaum tree probably doesn't. Keep in mind that uberbaum is
unofficial and unsupported, has been broken for a long time, and will
probably continue to be broken for a long time in the future. If you
want to use it, you will have to work around problems with it.
I don't use the uberbaum tree because without write access it's quite
incovenient for me. I manually assemble a combined tree by hard-linking
files from the gcc and src sandboxes.
I've re-read the simtest-howto page and, acually, it recommends to
check-out just a few modules from the sourceware repository.
