The stddef.h header of gcc contains the definitions for wint_t and wchar_t. Therefore libstdc++ (which is tightly linked to the compiler version) can rely on these symbols. If some port has its own stddef.h version and currently misses these definitions its something which should be corrected in these stddef.h copies and not some perfectly correct code.
