We certainly have some customers who would be interested in a high
quality Fortran compiler as part of the gcc suite. But they are only
interested if a company will take responsibility for providing effective
support. It is not good enough to simply have the software sitting there
if it cannot be supported in a guaranteed manner.
Does such a company exist for the rest of gcc? Is there some failure in
gcc (other than technical support) that has not been addressed by the
existing developers? While a third-party is certainly free to provide
support for GCC, in general this desire sounds to me as if it runs
counter to the concept of OSS. For better and worse.
