It would seem that the labs could best support gfortran by funding
several of their own programmers (or ASCI university collaborators) to
contribute to gfortran, rather than shoveling money at some third party.
We certainly have some customers who would be interested in a high
quality Fortran compiler as part of the gcc suite. But they are only
interested if a company will take responsibility for providing effective
support. It is not good enough to simply have the software sitting there
if it cannot be supported in a guaranteed manner.
