I'm aware of it, and I'm not thrilled about it.

Well, not bad, but it should be politer.
My suggestion is to have a pair of form letters, like
Version #1: bug also exists in the most recent FSF release.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your bug report.
This GNATS database is for the FSF version of GCC, but your report says
that you are using Red Hat's compiler. Still, we've verified that the
same bug also exists in gcc 3.0 [or whatever], so we'll be processing
it as a bug report against 3.0.
Red Hat tracks bugs in their compiler separately, so please resubmit
your report to http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Version #2: bug does not exist in the most recent FSF release.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your bug report.
This GNATS database is for the FSF version of GCC, but your report says
that you are using Red Hat's compiler. We've tested the FSF's current
release, 3.0 [or whatever], and this bug does not appear to be present,
so we'll be closing the bug report.
Red Hat tracks bugs in their compiler separately, so please resubmit
your report to http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/.

I thought that they'd done this a while ago. Do never versions still
say to send bug reports to the normal reporting address?
