I've had boehm-gc running on a MIPS simulator before. This was a
couple years ago. It wasn't using POSIX threads, it was using
qthreads (a hacky system; the way we were using it I/O blocked all
threads). I'm sure this is still doable, but it almost certainly
requires some hacking.
