Alpha & sjlj-exceptions

I forgot to mention, I couldn't get exceptions to work on my alpha-linux build,
so I had to revert to sjlj-exceptions in my local tree.  That could be part of
the reason some of you are having trouble on alpha.

If it doesn't get solved before branching 3.0, I suppose we can fix
configure.host in the branch only?

At least the bytecode interpreter still works for me :)
