I found a quick and dirty workaround to this bug. Setting
CXXFLAGS and CFLAGS to -g will make the offending file
compile.

Sounds right to me.

Now, I will concentrate on POSIX threads beacause it seems
easier to port existing code. If I find time maybe will I
have a look at irix threads.
Right now, the mips-sgi port still doesn't compile completely.
The build stops in the file libgcj/libjava/boehm.cc when building
for -mabi=64. The error is :
libgcj/libjava/boehm.cc: In function `void _Jv_InitGC()':
libgcj/libjava/boehm.cc:326: implicit declaration of function `int
__lock_release(...)'
I'm trying to fix this and I will post here if I manage to
make libgcj compile/test correctly under irix 6.5.
