But seriously, so far the benefits don't outweigh the costs.
The difficulties of a few compiler folks is a trivial expense
compared to the known costs of switching, particularly for
dynamic loading and lookup machinery. Now if you could show
that ELF code was 10% faster than MachO code, there would be
much interest in ELF, but so far nobody has come up with good
concrete performance numbers showing a disadvantage for MachO.
