What's happening to SPEC's 164.gzip/176.gcc/254.gap??

I've just fixed the problem that broke gcc so hope it will build
tomorrow.
I have no idea what is causing the regressions.  THe patch from day they
happent does not show anything interesting, so it may be just setup
change, but that looks unlikely too.
