Upgrading RedHat GCC 2.96

Hi Manfred,

Thanks for the suggestion - as it turns out sane won't compile 
under gcc3 anyway. Do you know if RedHat's gcc2.96-98 is likely 
to have had the bugs fixed that sane & xsane didn't like? And do 
you think there would be any problem running it on updated RH7.0 
(it was released for 7.2)?  I know what RedHat does/does not do is 
really not your/gcc's area, but if you do know the answers I'd be 
*very* grateful!  (The alternative is to download 2.95 and compile it 
myself - a daunting task for a newbie!)
