Sorry, I reread your message a number of times, but this still
looks like you making a reference to the bundled compiler, starred
and uppercased to make sure that dumb ol' Stan saw it:

Sorry to be both dense and persistent about all this, but the whole
K&R requirement for GCC seems to rest on what HP's various compilers
are and are not capable of doing. Since I'm regularly in the position
of explaining the K&R requirement both to astonished Apple management
and incredulous new hires, it's helpful to have the precise facts of
the situation.
