DWARF2 verses DWARF3

Currently gcc has the command-line switch "-gdwarf-2" for generating DWARF2
debugging information.

However DWARF3 features are beginning to appear in the generated debugging
information.

I was just wonder about what the intention is with regard to supporting
DWARF2 and DWARF3.

Should these be considered to be 2 separate formats ..... thus requiring a
new command line option to allow generation of the new DWARF3 constructs.

Or is the intention to move towards the output being DWARF3 (and no means
of restricting it to being DWARF2).
