gcc problems with HP-UX 10.2

Sounds like a make problem then.  If you are using gnu-make I suggest
that you try the make help list: help-make@gnu.org

.c.o:
        $(CC) -c $(CFLAGS) $<

Is generally the target I use when I want to take from .c to .o.
