Would you mind producing a patch?

If you don't have time to do all the testing and such, you could
produce a patch and find a volunteer to test it.  (I bet Phil Edwards
would do it if we asked nicely.)

I don't have a SPARC machine at the moment so I can't do a bootstrap
cycle even if I had the patch.
