Marc, in principle I fully agree with you. We really should refrain from
this kind of markup where possible.

However, in our case it is critical that as broad a base of users as
possible is able to read our (install) documentation and correctly
understand the information that we provide there.

We already get lots of bug reports from folks who have not read the
docs or at least not followed the instructions we provide there, so
I'm rather tempted to minimize any chance of misinterpretations there.

You'll note, though, that recently we have replaced <TT> by <CODE>,
as well as similiar markup corrections in various places. 

And, by the way, patches for our web pages are definitely welcome! ;-)
