Have you tried this:

Send a mail message to 

listname-request@cygnus.com

in the Body message:

unsubscribe listname your-email-address

Thus in this case:

Send mail to

egcs-request@cygnus.com

in the body message:

unsubscribe egcs peck@csc.smsu.edu


It has always worked for me.
