AFAIK, the answer is that it just doesn't work (at least not for C++).

Of course, that could go in the FAQ, together with a suggestion to
contact Rational and query them for the status of Purify with g++
2.8/egcs.

P.S. The real answer isn't that harsh. For example, linking statically
might help on Solaris; and it works as long no exception is thrown,
AFAIK. But the real answer still is that Rational needs to speak up
whether they want to support egcs or drop g++ support at all.
