ggdb debugging on i486-pc-linux-gnulibc1

Hi,

I was just wondering about the current status for ggdb 
debugging on i486-pc-linux-gnulibc1.
Using an egcs compiled gdb-4.16 I was not able to debug a -ggdb compiled
program. The -g compiled worked on the other hand.
I thought that DWARF2 is suppoted on Linux, so ggdb should be
usable.
