pre-1.1 regression

FWIW, gcc.dg/980626-1.c fails in my tests on both gcc-2.8.1 and
egcs-19980803, on both hpux10.20 and irix6.4, and passes with
egcs-1.0.3a on both OS.

Irix6.4 showed no regressions from gcc-2.8.1 to 19980803, and
hpux showed just 2 for g++, both of which passed egcs-1.0.3a
also (law/vtable2.C and mike/thunk1.C).  So, my tests with
gcc-2.8.1/g77-0.5.23 didn't turn up any regressions not present
between 1.0.3a and 19980803.
