[binutils] performance problem with gas

Hi,

I discovered a performance problem with recent versions of gas. Starting
with release 2.8.1.0.26 of binutils some benches of nbench run >5% slower
on an AMD K6. Could someone verify and fix this behavior? If it's
relevant - I use the pgcc-1.0.2 which is based on egcs-1.0.2.
