can't find the shared library

I wonder how to keep two kinds of gcc release in one machine.
I thought that installing to different directories makes it possible but 
gcc 3.01 is not
seems to work. I made a symbolic link to libgcc_s.so.1 but it didn't 
work (see below)
linker problem? I compiled gcc 3.01 with the binutils in 
/usr/local/gnu/bin but
the different version of binutils in /usr/bin included to $PATH.
save a novice :)

[hjdan@casad4 tmp]$ ./testgcc
./testgcc: error in loading shared libraries: libgcc_s.so.1: cannot open 
shared object file: No such file or directory
====>after symbolic linking ( only! libgcc_s.so.1 since I want to keep 
the old gcc )
[hjdan@casad4 tmp]$ ./testgcc
./testgcc: Symbol `_ZTVN10__cxxabiv117__class_type_infoE' has different 
size in shared object, consider re-linking
