openssh, gcc-3.0, and glibc

openssh-2.9p1,
compiled with gcc version 3.0 20010611 (prerelease), does not work.
Compiled with gcc version 2.95.3 there is no problem.
The C library on this system was built from the glibc CVS repository on May 29
using an old compiler (it would not build with 3.0, as others have reported).

On another system with old C library, gcc-3.0 builds the program successfully.
So apparently there is some kind of bad interaction with the new glibc.

The nonworking ssh program gets a segmentation fault during startup,
before reaching "main" and the debugger does not provide any symbolic help.
