compiler error message

When compiling a C++ program (w/ -ansi option) on Solaris, I got this
message:

/usr/ccs/bin/as: "var/tmp/cctFwFO4.s", line 12204: error: can't compute
value of an expression involving an external symbol. In above message, the
word :cctFwFO4" appears to change with each compile.

The same program compiled and ran fine with MIPSPRO C++ on IRIS, and with
Visual C++ on Windows.

Any clue to this message? Thanks.
