I haven't seen any problems using egcs built on Irix6.4 under Irix6.5, but 
the ability to go the other way is quite limited.  Shouldn't be surprised; we 
wasted weeks on obscure bugs when our software supplier switched to 6.5 and 
we didn't.  I think the cross-compatibility with 6.2 was much worse, as you 
indicate.
