I did another update this evening and the problem seems to have been
fixed by

        * acinclude.m4: Bring back changes lost during merge.
        (mostly Cygwin, automake and EGCS_PROG_INSTALL stuff).
        * aclocal.m4: Likewise.
        * configure.in: Likewise.
