Problems while installing egcs-19981130 with binutils 2.9.1

   after installing binutils 2.9.1 I run into problems with egcs.

   First, `configure' passes `-Wl,-bbigtoc' in LDFLAGS, which is not
   recognized by GNU ld ('Unrecognized BFD target: bigtoc').

You neglected to say what system you are using.  From the mention of
-bbigtoc, I'm guessing it's AIX.  The GNU binutils only support AIX up
to about version 4.1.  The GNU linker doesn't support the -bbigtoc
option.  This support will not be added until and unless somebody
volunteers to write it.

   Do you recommend to uninstall binutils as soon as possible?
