Testsuite errors

Tobias,

I can only return to this in a weeks time.  I had suspected that there
was some local problem, which is why I put the matter the way that I
did.  I had noticed that it was the most recent patches that were
failing... but not all of them and not involving the library.  I have
seen this before and cannot recall what the trouble was.  I'll post
the list when I have figured it out.
