Don't know about the undefined references, but ...

I think, it is related. It included a change in fd_seek which is called by 
sseek which is used by both backspacing routines, formatted_backspace() and 
unformatted_backspace() in  io/file_pos.c.

Could you please open a PR if the problem persists?
