Since I've been known to screw up before :-( it might be wise to wait  
to see whether Andy replies to "defend" the g95 behavior. He's no  
dummy and has caught me making errors before. I do think I'm correct,  
but then I might be wrong in thinking I am correct. :-( The ifort  
behavior at least suggests that I'm not the only one to have come to  
the same conclusion on this one (either that or they didn't think  
about it and it just happened to work out that way in the  
implementation).

But, of course, it is up to you.
