Getting a copyright assignment as an individual is very simple. Just 
read the instructions, ask us if you have any question, and it's a 
simple matter of signing a form and mail it back.

If your work on gfortran is not done during your employment hours, and 
if you do not use your employer's resources (you do not do gfortran 
development on the office's computer), then your employer has nothing to 
do with this. Basically, it's just as if you were writing a book on your 
leisure time.
