The GNU Fortran 95 Project ("gfortran") is indeed alive and well, an
active part of the pending GCC "tree-ssa" release that is planned for
late 2004/early 2005. This newsgroup is active.
The compiler is working well on many core applications, and people are
still developing additional features.
The G95 project is a seperate effort to create an independent Fortran 95.
I have suggested a need for weekly or biweekly status updates on the
gfortran page, to keep people such as yoruself informed about the project.
