Re: -fpic/-fPIC testresults under sol2.9 & ppclinux trunk

Benjamin, I don't understand why you're so dismissive of -fpic/-fPIC
nor do I understand the point of questioning the value of using these
flags to have more test coverage. Surely you understand what they do
and I have no doubt you understand why they're important, especially
to a shared library developer like yourself.

There's a bug here and it needs to be examined.

It may not be a bug in the library code itself, in which case this
isn't the right list to discuss it on. Andreas might have uncovered a
bug in cc1plus, or in PCH (you use PCH on mainline for the testsuite
right?), or he may have found a bug in the testsuite harness.

Nevertheless... unless it can be shown he committed some kind of self
inflicted user problem, IMHO we should provide him with more
assistance rather than question *why* he used gcc in such a way to
have uncovered a bug. He did demonstrate the problem on a linux-gnu
platform after all.

Would you please re-respond to his posting with a problem solving
spirit in mind?

		Thanks,
