I'm probably reasoning from the point of view of someone who set up linux on his
personal laptop, primarily for fun. On my hosted server I am the only root as well. I
wouldn't want one where I would not be root :-)
The other systems I remotely use, where I am not sysadmin, I only use for very
specific purposes and I don't spend much time on them. Most of the preparation is
done on my own laptop. I mostly "scp" to them. I seldom wholesale "ssh" to them.
I guess it's a similar situation to the one of Linus as he said lately, in an
interview. It's only now that they offer him to play with the big symmetrical iron
elephants that he's able or willing to turn his focus to them; and still, I'm sure
that he will continue to prefer leaner stuff.
