- Subject: Illegal Package-Private Accesses in 3.4
Hi,
I applied my package-private access checking patch/kludge to
the 3.4 snapshot from 2007-07-02 and found that some of the
issues I had reported earlier in 3.3 have been resolved while
a new one has been added.
The issues still present are:
1. java.lang.String illegally uses the members "value"
and "count" in gnu.gcj.runtime.StringBuffer.
2. java.lang.VMThrowable illegally calls "stackTraceAddrs( )"
in gnu.gcj.runtime.StackTrace.
3. gnu.gcj.runtime.NameFinder illegally uses the constructor
in java.lang.StackTraceElement.
4. gnu.awt.xlib.XEventLoop illegally uses the constructor in
gnu.gcj.xlib.XAnyEvent.
5. gnu.java.nio.FileChannelImpl illegally uses "m" from
java.nio.channels.FileChannel.MapMode.
#1 is weird since the author has explicitly noted in the place where
"value" and "count" are defined, as well as in the place where they
are accessed, that they will be accessed only via CNI and hence
normal protection checks would not apply.
I urge the respective owners to please take some time out to
fix these. I can submit patches to "fix" these, but these might
not exactly be what is most desirable.
Ranjit.
