It fails with

$ git config --add remote.origin.fetch '+refs/remotes/*:refs/remotes/origin/*'
$ git fetch
fatal: refs/remotes/origin/gcc-4_0-branch tracks both
refs/remotes/gcc-4_0-branch and refs/heads/gcc-4_0-branch
