You need to get the right package for your OS. For redhat distros that
would be an RPM something like compat-libstdc++-7.3-2.96.126.i386.rpm
For CentOS I poked around for 2 mins and found this:
http://www.sunsite.org.uk/sites/msync.centos.org/CentOS/4.0/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-132.7.2.i386.rpm
which might be what you want.
