Re: Feedback on -iquote

Have you tried the new compiler? Does it work for you (ignoring extra
messages by inform)?

Therefore, as a result of the deprecation of -I-, this issue was seriously
discussed on libcwd-devel and a new design of how to deal with debug
declarations in various header files (of libcwd, of third party libraries
and of the end-applications) has been made that will work without the
use of -I-.

During this process I realized that it is actually my opinion that -I-
should not be used as a tool, but rather and at most as a workaround for
a given situation where a given installation otherwise cannot compile.
So, I am happy to have gotten rid of the need of -I- and will do so
even if it is not deprecated.

Hum... You're happy to have removed the need to use -I- from your code? Why then propose that we not get rid of it?

The question for you remains (assuming you agree with me on the above)
whether or not -iquote can be used to workaround all situation that -I-
can be a workaround for. If not then it shouldn't be deprecated, but
when it can - then well, why not.

One either needs it, or doesn't need it. Those that need it, are screwed, as -iquote doesn't offer the one semantic. You say, you don't need it, if that is true, than your experience is a bad reason to put it back in. Rather, we want to hear from people who just hate (those that are not happy to change thier code and whose code then fails to compile) that it has been removed. We intended to inconvenience a few people who use it currently. You sound like you fall into this later camp. We do recognize that we'll cause a brief moment of pain for those people.

I'll refrain from answering your question directly, as it has more to do with using gcc, and from my use of it, no, I do not need -I-, that doesn't mean that others don't _need_ it.
