It also sounds like the ideal place for me to try and work in the code I need to transform float arguments to doubles. If it could be languahe-agnostic that would be great.

I believe that Richard Henderson's hook lives in c-common.c, but I personally
have absolutely no problem in making it more generic like Steve suggested.
Alas, I'm still waiting to receive a blessing/go-ahead...
