Right, I got that wrong, but RMS didn't, as I recall; the issue that came
up with Dupont's "introspector", for dumping XML for C/C++, was similar: a
proprietary program could use the meta-information, thus allowing it to
benefit from GCC's front end. So he didn't want to do it, even though Ada
has something similar. RMS dislikes arguments from precedent, as he wants
to be free to follow what he considers best strategy in each case.
I don't want to revive the flame war we've had over these issues in the
past, I just wanted to let folks know that RMS is much more likely to
accept interfaces in cases where language standards more or less require
them.
