Volker, would you go ahead and make that change?  If any of the three
affected parties pipes up, we can consider undoing it at that point.
Did that, i.e. I committed the patch below to mainline and 3.3 branch:

But somebody else has to take care of logins etc. (if there are any).

Can you also apply this to the 3.4 branch?
