seperate libiberty

Are there any plans to create a seperately managed libiberty project ?
In the long term it should make it easier to maintain libiberty if its
all done in one place.
Is there any reason why such a move would be undesirable ?
libiberty has been around a long time, im sure the issue must have come
up before, but i cant find any info.
