Hmm, part of me agress, part of me is worried that this will (mis)lead
users to skip relevant pieces of the detailed instructions.

$GCC_SOURCE/gcc/doc/install.texi; the HTML documentation is generated
using the install.texi2html script in the same directory.
I think such a cookbook might fit on the first/main page, and with clear
caveats it indeed looks like a good idea; however, in _no_ case may users
omit checking the "host/target specific installation notes"! (Perhaps the
link the these should be moved into the number list on that page, as item2?)
Also, what I'd really, really appreciate very highly is if someone could
review the current instructions and try to simplify/shorten them; this
could be done via short, separate patches.
