Well, I suppose the same was true when GNU boycotted Apple: In the end
you always hurt the user. So be it, it makes perfect sense to me. If
SCO users have a problem, then they should migrate to a supported
platform or complain with SCO.
SCO publicly denounces free software and open source software, and in
fact by talking about Linux as covering the whole operating system
(GNU/Linux, whatever), they also hurt the GNU project and GCC. So why
would a GNU project like GCC support them? Why would the major
contributors to GCC (like RedHat, SuSE) work for a company that
threatens to shut them down?
Besides, SCO would probably provide GCC anyway because the ports
apparently are in good shape and just recently even got a new
maintainer. They can produce their own GCC (now if only that trade mark
was in place...)
I am surprised it took this long to get a discussion like this one going
:-)
