Thanks for quick answer. Just the last question: is there any will to
support non-Darwin platforms in Apple's gcc3?

Yes.  It's the the way to get Objective-C++ for instance, and from
a purely selfish point of view :-), having gcc3 on non-Darwin
enables us to identify gcc3 vs regular gcc issues independent of
platform.
