The *only* point in having DWARF support is for compatibility with vendor
tools; GDB works find with DWARF2 or DBX. But what vendor tools are out
there that really want DWARF anymore?
I think there are still a number of compilers and debuggers in the
embedded space that use DWARF 1.1 with some C++ extensions that we
haven't bothered to implement.
Why do we care? (Not meaning to be flip; a serious question.)
I would not object to re-disabling DWARF 1 for C++.
That would be a partial improvement. We'd still be stuck with the
code, but we'd at least not push its limits as much.
