This is required by SGI system header files. I don't know if other mips
systems use it, but when it was put in on Feb 10/11 1992, it was put into
mips.h and all of the mips target header files at the same time. It might
be necessary for anything descended from the original MIPS/SGI systems.
I don't have a copy of the MIPS psABI handy, so I don't know if it is in
there or not.
