GNU Methodology?

hi all!!

 i'm subscribing to this list for a couple of months and following your
development process. from what i've understood, i think, your way of
developing software shud qualify as a unique methodology. the whole
process is managed by techies and there's nothing like marketing or hr
management. also the synergy of a large and apparently chaotic community
of developers distributed over the globe, which keeps yeilding quality
software products, is simply amazing. the process that you follow is
capable of tolerating unpredictable and part-time nature of the developers
and in short, recognizes their individuality and freedom. i just want to
know whether any attempt has been made to document this methodology and
your experiences of implementing it. such a document will surely benifit a
lot of organizations.
