Statically linking against libdb1

I am hoping that someone on this list has some
experience and can tell me whether or not I can do
this. I am writing a plugin for another program.
That program links against libdb. However my program
needs to use the librpm which needs libdb1. the rpm
library spits out errors when using libdb. My plugin
needs to be (of course) a shared library. Basically
what I am asking is: "Is there a way to get my shared
library to use libdb1 instead of the libdb that is in
the runtime environment of the program I am writing
for?". I've tried statically linking against libdb1
(using -Wl,-Bstatic,-ldb1), but I can tell from the
errors I get that it is still using libdb. Any
Ideas?? Thanks in advance :)
