There are several bugs associated with optimization and
-fomit-frame-pointer on x86's. This is a regression and has bitten me
and others building common packages (e.g., groff). Some of the PR
reference numbers in gnats are: 3480, 3323, 3224, and 2447.
This is a very common optimization on x86's and should be fixed ASAP.
